The Rodent’s Rise to Fame

Of course capybaras have always been around, but when did these animals start circulating the internet? Back in the early 2000’s there were videos of capybaras relaxing in hot springs in Japan just soaking. Their overall vibe and unbothered attitude made people grow to like these relaxed animals. Years later the capybaras fame slowly grew but when TikTok started to takeoff, the capybara grew as well because of their appearance. Visually these animals always seemed to be social, gentle, and completely unbothered by their surroundings. For example, you can find images all over the internet of all types of animals around capybaras and they couldn’t care less. Capybaras embody peace and harmony in nature and rarely have issues with any species on the earth. Another reason for their rise to fame is their appearances on movies and television. Most honorable appearances include Encanto and Rio 2 having small roles but perfectly fit their descriptions.

So What’s a Capybara?

As large as these animals are, they are considered to be a part of the rodent family. Naturally it makes them the largest rodents considering their cousins are rats and guinea pigs yet they’re larger than most dogs. Capybaras are predominantly found in South America but scattered around the world as well. In a few states it is legally required you either own another animal or another capybara if you plan to domesticate a capybara. The reasoning is because of how social they normally are they need companions, otherwise they can get depressed which then leads to it getting sick as well. Whether you own a bird, a cat, or even a gator, do not leave these precious social creatures alone for too long.

Ride Along the Capybara Train

Now that you know what capybaras are and how they circulated the internet, ride along this trend that capybaras are set on. Their popularity continues to rise on TikTok and make more appearances everywhere you look. They even have multiple mobile games that are so simple yet so addictive, similar to people’s reactions to capybaras. Such simple creatures yet with so much attention. Next time you see a capybara appearance, point it out or tell a friend to let them know that capybaras are a conversation worth talking about!
